Free face yoga app with no subscription: what you actually need to pay for

Type a face yoga app into Google and the questions it suggests are telling: how much is it, and how do I cancel it. People sign up, pay monthly, and then look for the exit.

That is worth taking apart, because the thing being charged for is not the thing that is hard.

The exercises are not the scarce part

Facial exercise routines are freely available and have been for years, on YouTube and from the practitioners who popularised them. A paid app packages them into a programme with a streak counter and some coaching, which is real work, but it is not exclusive knowledge.

If you drop out of a paid programme, you have usually not lost the exercises. You have lost the reminder and the record.

The hard part is evidence

Face yoga takes weeks to show anything, and the change is slow enough that a mirror cannot see it. That leaves photographs, and photographs only work when they are comparable: same light, same angle, same expression, taken on days you did not feel like it.

This is what people actually fail at, and it is also what makes the whole exercise decidable. Without a comparable record, three months in you are guessing.

What a free tool should do

Remind you at a fixed time, because the same hour every day removes the biggest source of variation after angle. Show you the previous photo while you take the next one, so the angle matches. Keep the set in order and turn it into a timelapse. That is the whole job.

FaceAlarm does those and nothing else. There is no subscription, no account, and the photos stay on the device, with no upload, which for daily face photos is the point rather than a feature.

Pair it with any free routine you like. If after a month you see something, keep going and consider paying for coaching. If you see nothing, you found out for the price of thirty selfies.

Questions

Is there a genuinely free face yoga app?

For tracking, yes. This one is free with no subscription and no account. For guided exercise programmes, most apps charge monthly, though the routines themselves are widely available free on YouTube.

Why do face yoga apps charge a subscription?

They sell the programme: sequenced exercises, coaching, streaks. That is legitimate work, but it is not the part that decides whether face yoga works for you — a comparable photo record is, and that does not need to cost anything.

Do my progress photos get uploaded anywhere?

Not with this app. Photos are stored on the device, there is no account, and it works offline. For daily face photos taken before you are dressed, that is the main requirement rather than a bonus.

Test it on your own face

A daily alarm, a selfie lined up with yesterday's, and a timelapse at the end of the month. Free, no account, photos stay on your phone.
